1/ McLaren's Make-or-Break Moment: Norris Eyes Canadian GP to Test Slow-Speed Cornering Upgrades

Lando Norris believes the upcoming Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix will be a crucial test for McLaren's efforts to overcome their slow-speed cornering issues. McLaren made significant progress last season, moving from struggling in Q1 to regular podium contenders through mid-season updates. Despite improvements in high-speed tracks, they struggled with low-speed corners until recent upgrades in Miami showed promise. Norris's win in Miami and strong performance in Monaco indicate progress, but he insists the true measure will be at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which combines long straights with low-speed sections, challenging their car's balance and traction.
2/ Valtteri Bottas Poised for Surprising Mercedes Comeback in 2025

1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has predicted that Valtteri Bottas could make a shock return to Mercedes on a one-year deal for the 2025 season. Following Lewis Hamilton's unexpected move to Ferrari, Mercedes is exploring options for a driver to partner with George Russell. Among the contenders are rising star Andrea Kimi Antonelli, reigning champion Max Verstappen, and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, although the latter is unlikely to accept a short-term contract. Bottas, who raced for Mercedes for five years before moving to Sauber, is seen as a viable candidate due to his familiarity with the team and willingness to accept a one-year deal, which would potentially pave the way for Antonelli's future debut.
3/ Leclerc Penalized for Tyre Mix-Up in Rainy Canadian GP Practice

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc received a โฌ5000 fine following an incident during Friday practice at the Canadian Grand Prix. Amid adverse weather conditions, the team sent Leclerc out on intermediate tyres, despite the track not being officially declared wet. Confusion arose when Ferrari radioed Leclerc during his out lap, questioning the tyre choice. The race stewards investigated and concluded that the team breached Article 30.5 l) of the FIA regulations, which restricts intermediate tyre usage to officially wet conditions. The fine was imposed after the session, avoiding a grid penalty since the infraction occurred during practice.
4/ Williams Eyes Carlos Sainz for 2025: Vowles' Bold Vision to Restore Team's Glory

Williams Formula 1 boss James Vowles is making a strong public push to attract Carlos Sainz to the team for the 2025 season, following Ferrariโs decision to replace Sainz with Lewis Hamilton. Sainz, whose hopes for a Red Bull drive were recently dashed by Sergio Perez's contract extension, is considering his options, including a lucrative offer from Audi for 2026. Vowles, keen to restore Williams to its former glory, has emphasized the team's transformation and ambition by actively pursuing a driver of Sainz's caliber. He highlighted the team's commitment to acquiring top-tier talent and improving its infrastructure to compete at the front of the grid.
5/ Circuit Gilles Villeneuve Resurfaced Ahead of Canadian GP

(Eric Bolte / USA TODAY Sports)
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal has undergone a complete resurface ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. New kerbing has also been installed around the track in a bid to improve drainage. The resurfacing was a pre-planned renovation. A brand new surface could potentially shake up the competitive order, as some cars may adapt better than others to the changed grip levels and characteristics. It adds an extra variable that teams will have had to prepare for remotely. It promises an unpredictable race as drivers and teams grapple with the updated circuit.
