1/ Ricciardo's Jump Start Drama in Canada: Clutch Problem Leads to Penalty but Ends in Points

Red Bullโs Daniel Ricciardo faced a five-second penalty for a jump start in the Canadian Grand Prix, attributed to a clutch issue that caused his car to move before the start signal. Confused at first, Ricciardo later understood from his race engineer that the problem stemmed from slight clutch dragging, an issue that has plagued the RB team recently. Despite the setback and further race complications, including a challenging pit stop and changing weather conditions, Ricciardo managed to finish 8th, securing his first points of the 2024 season.
2/ Double Trouble: Montreal Meltdown Leaves Scuderia Reeling

Ferrari endured a disastrous Canadian Grand Prix as engine issues and collisions forced both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to retire from the race. Leclerc's car suffered a power unit problem that saw him lose around 80 horsepower, severely compromising his race. Although a reset in the pits temporarily fixed the issue, he had already been lapped and stood no chance of scoring points. Meanwhile, Sainz, after a challenging qualifying session, struggled with grip and handling throughout the race. His fortunes briefly improved, climbing to ninth place, before a spin on a wet kerb led to a collision with Alexander Albon, ending the race for both drivers. Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur expressed deep frustration, noting the team's unexpected struggles and emphasizing the need to address reliability issues ahead of the next race.
3/ Ferrari's Risky Gamble Costs Sainz in Canadian Grand Prix

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz attributed his spin and subsequent crash at the Canadian Grand Prix to taking additional risks in an attempt to score points. Starting from 12th place and hindered by initial setbacks in wet conditions, Sainz tried to gain ground in the final laps on slick tires. However, a spin at Turn 6 led to a collision with Alex Albon's Williams, exacerbating the damage he had already incurred. Sainz admitted that while the car showed potential towards the end, particularly on slick tires, the pace was insufficient throughout the race to make significant overtakes. The team's struggles with tire temperatures and lack of pace were surprising, given the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's characteristics which were expected to suit their car better. This race marked Ferrari's first double retirement since the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, further extending Red Bull's lead in the Constructors' Championship.
4/ Alpine's Team Order Turmoil: Ocon Fumes as Position Swap Promise Broken

During the Montreal Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon felt betrayed by his Alpine team after obeying team orders to let teammate Pierre Gasly through in a bid to overtake Daniel Ricciardo. Ocon had been promised that if Gasly's attempt failed, their positions would be swapped back, but this did not happen. Despite his adherence to team instructions and feeling he was treated unfairly, team principal Bruno Famin later explained that Ocon's energy management issues and the proximity of rival Nico Hulkenberg necessitated keeping the positions as they were to avoid further loss of points.
5/ Motorsport Icon Meets Modern Legend: Lewis Hamilton Honors 'Motorcycle Mary' in Inspiring Documentary

At the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton revealed his role in a documentary spotlighting motorsport legend Mary McGee. Known as 'Motorcycle Mary,' McGee broke barriers as the first woman to compete in both road races and motocross competitions in the U.S., and also raced sports cars like the Mercedes 300SL and Porsche Spyder. The 22-minute documentary, directed by Haley Watson and produced by Hamilton, showcases never-before-seen archival footage and photographs from McGeeโs life. The film, highlighting her pioneering spirit and contributions to motorsport, premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 7th.
