Lewis Hamilton claimed his 104th career win at the 2024 British Grand Prix, marking his ninth victory at Silverstone. This win, his first since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, came just a week after Mercedes' first win of the season by George Russell at the Austrian Grand Prix. The race saw Hamilton narrowly beat Max Verstappen, who finished just over a second behind. Lando Norris, who led at one point, had to settle for third after Verstappen passed him in the final laps. Russell, despite leading early on and qualifying on pole, was forced to retire due to a water pressure issue, while Pierre Gasly retired before the race began. The changing weather conditions played a significant role, with drivers switching to intermediate tyres mid-race and strategic calls impacting the final standings. Ultimately, Hamilton's skill and experience shone through in a race filled with intense competition and dramatic twists.

Lando Norris voiced his disappointment after McLaren's pit stop strategy derailed their chances of winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Norris initially took the lead after overtaking Max Verstappen and Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. However, a critical decision to switch to soft tires and a slow pit stop due to overshooting his pit box allowed Hamilton to undercut him. Team principal Andrea Stella admitted that their strategy was overly influenced by Hamilton's tire choice and that they doubted their decision-making in the moment, leading to costly errors. Despite recent strong performances, Norris acknowledged that McLaren lacked the pace to compete with Mercedes in dry conditions.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull showcased their strategic prowess at the British Grand Prix, turning what could have been a disappointing P5 or P6 finish into a second-place podium. Despite struggling with grip and falling behind both McLarens early in the race, Verstappen credited his team's timely decisions during changing weather conditions for his recovery. The reigning World Champion highlighted the crucial calls to switch to intermediates and then back to slicks, as well as the choice of hard tires for the final stint, which allowed him to overtake Lando Norris and challenge Lewis Hamilton in the closing laps.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed his surprise at the team's competitive performance, leading to Lewis Hamilton's victory at the British Grand Prix, marking his first win since December 2021. This win, combined with George Russell's success in Austria, has given Mercedes consecutive victories in the ground effect era. Wolff noted that despite prior expectations of improved performance, the team did not anticipate such success at Silverstone, attributing Hamilton's win to pure speed and effective strategies against McLaren and Red Bull. He highlighted the challenges faced over the past two years and the renewed potential of the W15, emphasizing that their recent achievements validate their current approach.
