1/ Norris Falls Short in Thrilling Barcelona Showdown as Verstappen Dominates Again

Lando Norris came close to securing his second career victory at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona but ultimately finished second, 2.219 seconds behind Max Verstappen. Despite starting from pole position, Norris lost the lead early on due to a poor start, allowing George Russell to briefly take the lead before Verstappen overtook him. Verstappen's win marked his third consecutive victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, extending his lead in the drivers' championship to 69 points over Norris, who now sits in second place for the first time in his career. Lewis Hamilton returned to the podium for the first time since the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix, finishing third, followed by his teammate George Russell in fourth and Charles Leclerc in fifth. The race also saw penalties for Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hulkenberg for speeding in the pit lane.

In his best weekend of the season, Lewis Hamilton secured a third-place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix, marking his return to the podium. Starting from third on the grid, the seven-time world champion overtook his teammate in the final stages to clinch the spot. Hamilton expressed satisfaction with his performance but emphasized that Mercedes needs to keep pushing to catch up with their rivals, notably McLaren, Ferrari, and the dominant Red Bull team. Despite recent upgrades that have improved the car's competitiveness, Hamilton noted that the Mercedes still struggles with balance and tire management. Team boss Toto Wolff highlighted that strategic decisions played in Hamilton's favor this time, contributing to the successful weekend.

3/ McLaren Takes the Lead: Sainz and Horner Praise Teamโ€™s Consistency and Performance Edge

Carlos Sainz of Ferrari has praised McLaren's MCL38 as the most consistent and well-rounded car in the current Formula 1 season, surpassing even Red Bull's performance. Despite Lando Norris finishing second in the Spanish Grand Prix, his ability to close in on Max Verstappen highlighted McLaren's significant progress. Sainz noted that McLaren's car excels across various track conditions without any major weaknesses, unlike Red Bull, which struggles with kerb-riding issues. Red Bull's Christian Horner acknowledged that Norris could have won if not for early setbacks, emphasizing McLaren's strong race pace and tire management. McLaren's team boss Andrea Stella, however, believes that their performance is on par with Red Bull, attributing their end-race speed to fresher tires and strategic positioning.

4/ Aston Martin's Bold Return to Le Mans with Valkyrie Hypercars

(Aston Martin)

Aston Martin has announced its return to the top tier of endurance racing by entering two Valkyrie AMR-LMH hypercars in the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This marks the first time since 1959 that the British automaker aims to win the iconic race outright. Partnering with the Heart of Racing team, Aston Martin will compete in all WEC rounds, adhering to new regulations requiring manufacturers to field at least two cars in the Hypercar class. The Valkyrie AMR-LMH, featuring a modified Cosworth-built 6.5-liter V12 engine, is already undergoing extensive testing at Silverstone and Portimao circuits. Additionally, Aston Martin plans to enter the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the GTP class, further solidifying its presence in global endurance racing.

5/ Alpine Makes Late Bid for Carlos Sainz as Team Looks to Climb F1 Grid

(IMAGO / PanoramiC and IMAGO / Eibner)

Alpine has made a surprising late bid to secure Carlos Sainz for the 2025 Formula 1 season, adding a new dimension to the driver's decision-making process. Previously, Sainz was considering offers from Williams and Sauber (soon to be Audi), but Alpine's recent performance improvements and an attractive contract offer have made them a serious contender. The team's recent success, including consecutive double points finishes in the Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix, contrasts sharply with the struggles of Sauber and Williams. This bid comes shortly after the appointment of former F1 team boss Flavio Briatore as a special advisor, who is known for his aggressive driver acquisition strategies. With Esteban Ocon set to leave and Pierre Gasly's contract also expiring, Alpine is keen to lock in top talent for the upcoming season.
